The Path to the Team

Admission to our elite Competition Team is by audition only. We look for dedicated dancers with strong technique, a coachable attitude, and a passion for performance. Placement is earned each year, ensuring our dancers are grouped where they will be both challenged and positioned to thrive.

Team members are required to train in all dance disciplines. Mandatory classes in Contemporary, Lyrical, Jazz, Hip Hop, dedicated Technique and Conditioning, and Acro. This comprehensive training ensures our dancers are versatile, resilient, and fully prepared to go head-to-head with the most notable studios in the state.

This program is a major investment of time and energy, but for the dancer ready to outwork the competition, the growth and rewards are unmatched.

We challenge our dancers to push boundaries, embrace absolute commitment, and discover the strongest version of themselves under the brightest lights.

Frequently Asked Questions

We know joining a competitive team is a big decision, so we’ve gathered answers to our most frequently asked questions to help you navigate the season ahead.

While requirements vary slightly by age division, we look for a strong foundation in core technical elements. At a minimum, dancers should demonstrate mastery of—or strong proficiency in—the following skills:

  • Flexibility & Extensions: Solid right and left flat splits, proper placement in grands jetés (leaps), and controlled leg extensions (tilt jumps, développés).
  • Turns & Balance: Clean, centered double and triple pirouettes on both sides, proper spotting, and a strong foundation in a la seconde (fouetté) turn combinations.
  • Acrobatic Basics: Strong core and shoulder stability, including controlled handstands, cartwheels on both sides, and clean back/front walkovers.
  • Core Execution: Sharp jazz technique, proper foot articulation (clean tendus and pliés), and excellent posture and alignment.

What Matters Most: Beyond this checklist of skills, our competition instructors look for adaptability and execution. We value a coachable spirit, a quick ability to pick up choreography, and a strong stage presence just as much as raw technical skills.

Choreography and formations rely on every single dancer being present. Unexcused absences can result in a dancer being removed from a routine, so we ask that families review the schedule carefully before committing to the season.

Yes. No spots are guaranteed from year to year. Every dancer—both new and returning—must audition annually. This ensures that groups are balanced correctly and that placements and routine levels reflect the current skill, growth, and maturity level of each dancer.

To maintain our elite standard, all team members are required to train in our full curriculum, which includes Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Technique, and Acro. While faculty will determine routine placements (solos, duets, trios, small, or large groups), well-rounded training in all disciplines is mandatory for every dancer on the team.

Extra routines like solos, duets, and trios are awarded at the discretion of the studio directors and faculty. Selections are based on audition performance, technical readiness, work ethic, and the dancer’s ability to handle the additional rehearsal schedule on top of their mandatory group commitments.
